# Christopher Glancy

**Christopher John Glancy**, C.S.V. (born April 10, 1960) is an [American](/source/Americans)-born [bishop](/source/Bishop_(Catholic_Church)) of the [Catholic Church](/source/Catholic_Church) in [Belize](/source/Belize). He has been the [auxiliary bishop](/source/Auxiliary_bishop) of the [Diocese of Belize City–Belmopan](/source/Diocese_of_Belize_City%E2%80%93Belmopan) from 2012 until 2024.

## Early life and education

Christopher John Glancy was born in [Moline, Illinois](/source/Moline,_Illinois). He was educated at [Alleman High School](/source/Alleman_High_School) in [Rock Island, Illinois](/source/Rock_Island,_Illinois), and earned a [bachelor's degree](/source/Bachelor's_degree) in sociology from [Loyola University of Chicago](/source/Loyola_University_of_Chicago).[1] He professed religious vows in the [Clerics of St. Viator](/source/Clerics_of_St._Viator), also known as the Viatorians, on July 16, 1983. He taught at the Colegio San Viator in [Bogota, Colombia](/source/Bogota,_Colombia), for four years. Glancy made his perpetual profession on July 13, 1986. He earned a [master of divinity](/source/Master_of_divinity) degree, specializing in the theology of missions, from [Catholic Theological Union](/source/Catholic_Theological_Union) in Chicago.

## Priesthood

Glancy was ordained a priest on April 17, 1993.[2] His first assignment as a priest was as [parochial vicar](/source/Parochial_vicar) at Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in [Bourbonnais, Illinois](/source/Bourbonnais,_Illinois). He served as vocation director and as a member of the provincial council of the Viatorians. He was missioned to Belize in 1998, where he served as parochial vicar at [St. Francis Xavier Parish](/source/History_of_Roman_Catholicism_in_Belize#The_Viatorians) in [Corozal](/source/Corozal_District). The parish has 23 village missions, 19 primary schools, and Chunox St. Viator Vocational High School. He later returned to the United States where he served as parochial vicar at St. Viator Parish in [Chicago](/source/Chicago).[1]

## Episcopacy

[Pope Benedict XVI](/source/Pope_Benedict_XVI) named Glancy the [Titular Bishop](/source/Titular_Bishop) of *Absa Salla* and Auxiliary Bishop of Belize City-Belmopan on February 18, 2012.[2] He was ordained a bishop by Archbishop [Luigi Pezzuto](/source/Luigi_Pezzuto), the [Apostolic Nuncio](/source/Apostolic_Nuncio) to Belize and the Antilles on May 5, 2012. The principal co-consecrators were Bishops [Dorick M. Wright](/source/Dorick_M._Wright) of Belize City-Belmopan and [Jacques Berthelet](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Berthelet), C.S.V. of [Saint-Jean-Longueuil](/source/Roman_Catholic_Diocese_of_Saint-Jean-Longueuil).[2] The Auxiliary Bishop works out of the [cathedral](/source/Holy_Redeemer_Cathedral) [parish](/source/Holy_Redeemer_Catholic_Parish,_Belize_City) in Belize City.

He resigned as auxiliary bishop on 13 March 2024.[2]
