# Christopher D. Lima

**Christopher David Lima** is an American biologist. He is currently Chair and Member at the Sloan Kettering Institute of [Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center](/source/Memorial_Sloan_Kettering_Cancer_Center) and an Investigator of the [Howard Hughes Medical Institute](/source/Howard_Hughes_Medical_Institute). He is an elected fellow of the [American Academy of Arts & Sciences](/source/American_Academy_of_Arts_%26_Sciences) and [National Academy of Sciences](/source/National_Academy_of_Sciences).[1]

## Early life and education

Lima was born to parents Nancy and David Lima in [Willoughby, Ohio](/source/Willoughby,_Ohio). His mother is a former admissions counselor at the Andrews School and his father is a former psychotherapist.[2] He completed his [Bachelor of Arts](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) degree in biochemistry from [Ohio State University](/source/Ohio_State_University) in 1989 and his Ph.D. in biochemistry and biophysics from [Northwestern University](/source/Northwestern_University). Following this, he studied as a Helen Hay Whitney Fellow at [Columbia University](/source/Columbia_University) under the guidance of [Wayne Hendrickson](/source/Wayne_Hendrickson).[3]

## Personal life

Lima married Diane Stockwell in 2005. They have one son born in 2009.[2]
