**Dr. Christophe Fournier** was the formal president of the [Médecins Sans Frontières](/source/M%C3%A9decins_Sans_Fronti%C3%A8res) organisation (MSF).

## Career

Fournier received an [M.D.](/source/Doctor_of_Medicine) from the [Université d'Auvergne](/source/University_of_Auvergne) in [Clermont-Ferrand](/source/Clermont-Ferrand), [France](/source/France), and holds a [degree](/source/Academic_degree) in [tropical medicine](/source/Tropical_medicine), [epidemiology](/source/Epidemiology) and [biostatistics](/source/Biostatistics).[1] He has worked as a [doctor](/source/Physician) or [head of mission](/source/Head_of_mission) in field projects in [Burundi](/source/Burundi), [Uganda](/source/Uganda), [Honduras](/source/Honduras) and [Chile](/source/Chile), as well as conducting emergency exploratory missions in [Mexico](/source/Mexico) and [Venezuela](/source/Venezuela). In 2000, he became MSF's operations manager, working in the [United States](/source/United_States), and managing field programs in [Guatemala](/source/Guatemala), [Haiti](/source/Haiti), [Nigeria](/source/Nigeria), [Sudan](/source/Sudan), [Cambodia](/source/Cambodia), [Myanmar](/source/Myanmar) and [Thailand](/source/Thailand). He became president in December 2006.[2]
