'''''Chionographis''''' is a genus of plants in the [Melanthiaceae](/source/Melanthiaceae) first described as a genus in 1867.<ref>[https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/33425615#page/238/mode/1up Maximowicz, Carl Johann. 1867. ''Chionographis'' species are perennial flowering plants that grow from [rhizome](/source/rhizome)s. They produce a basal [rosette](/source/rosette_(botany)) of [evergreen](/source/evergreen) leaves, from the center of which emerges a flowering [scape](/source/scape_(botany)). The scape produces a spike of many small white flowers. The flowers are [zygomorphic](/source/zygomorphic) in shape, and when [perfect](/source/plant_sexuality) have six [tepals](/source/tepals), one [pistil](/source/pistil), and six [stamens](/source/stamens). However, not all individuals have perfect flowers. Many populations feature [gynodioecy](/source/gynodioecy),<ref>{{cite journal |doi=10.1086/297130 |author=Masayuki Maki and Michiko Masuda |year=1993 |journal=International Journal of Plant Sciences |title=Spatial Autocorrelation of Genotypes in a Gynodioecious Population of Chionographis japonica var.
