**Chilfrome** ([/ˈtʃɪlˌfruːm/](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/English)) is a small village and [civil parish](/source/Civil_parishes_in_England) in the county of [Dorset](/source/Dorset) in southwest England. It lies in the [Dorset](/source/Dorset_(unitary_authority)) unitary authority administrative area, approximately 9 miles (14 km) northwest of the county town [Dorchester](/source/Dorchester%2C_Dorset). It is situated between the villages of [Cattistock](/source/Cattistock) and [Maiden Newton](/source/Maiden_Newton) in the upper reaches of the [Frome Valley](/source/River_Frome%2C_Dorset) in the [Dorset Downs](/source/Dorset_Downs). [Dorset County Council](/source/Dorset_County_Council) estimate that in 2013 the population of the civil parish was 40.[1]

The region served as a passing point by the [Legio II Augusta](/source/Legio_II_Augusta) during the [Roman conquest of Britain](/source/Roman_conquest_of_Britain). The [Chilfrome Hoard](/source/Chilfrome_Hoard) was deposited in the town circa 47 AD, and was rediscovered by metal detectorists in 2021.[2]

The [parish church](/source/Parish_church) dates from the 14th century and is a Grade II* [Listed Building](/source/Listed_building).[3] It was largely restored in 1864, though it has a thirteenth-century chancel-arch, a partly fourteenth-century nave,[4] and windows dating from the fifteenth century.[5]

Three [long-distance footpaths](/source/Long-distance_trail), the [Wessex Ridgeway](/source/Wessex_Ridgeway), the [Macmillan Way](/source/Macmillan_Way) and the [Frome Valley Trail](/source/Frome_Valley_Trail), all pass through the village.[6][7][8]
