**Chiiild** (pronounced "child") is a Canadian [experimental](/source/Experimental_music) [soul](/source/Soul_music) band, fronted by [Yonatan "xSDTRK" Ayal](/source/XSDTRK) signed to Avant Garden Records[1][2] and 4th & Broadway (Def Jam Recordings). The [Montréal](/source/Montreal)-based band formed in 2017 and released their debut [EP](/source/Extended_play), *[Synthetic Soul](/source/Synthetic_Soul)*, in 2020.

## Musical style and influences

With a creative process rooted in collaborative experimentation, Chiiild's work has been universally described as "genre-bending."[3][4] Various styles the band has drawn from include [soul](/source/Soul_music),[2] [R&B](/source/Contemporary_R%26B),[5] [psychedelia](/source/Psychedelic_soul),[6] [jazz](/source/Jazz),[7] [indie](/source/Indie_rock#Indie_electronic),[8] and [pop](/source/Pop_music).[9] The band has dubbed this wide-ranging textural sound as “synthetic soul”.

The band has cited [D'Angelo](/source/D'Angelo), [Tame Impala](/source/Tame_Impala), [Pink Floyd](/source/Pink_Floyd), [Marvin Gaye](/source/Marvin_Gaye), [The Notorious B.I.G.](/source/The_Notorious_B.I.G.), [Brandy](/source/Brandy_Norwood), [Wu-Tang Clan](/source/Wu-Tang_Clan), [Fleetwood Mac](/source/Fleetwood_Mac) and [Moby](/source/Moby) as influences.[1][10]
