Well known for his versatility, Walker, a graduate of [Chicago](/source/Chicago)'s [Tilden High School](/source/Tilden_High_School_(Chicago)), played at least 40 games at five different positions in his MLB career, appearing at [third base](/source/third_baseman), [second base](/source/second_baseman), and all three [outfield](/source/outfielder) positions.<ref name=BRF/> His most productive season came in 1992, when he posted a combined .289 [batting average](/source/batting_average_(baseball)) with 38 [RBI](/source/run_batted_in) in 126 games for the Cubs and Mets, all career numbers. Additionally, Walker spent 19 seasons in [Minor League Baseball](/source/Minor_League_Baseball), compiling a .269 average with 154 [home run](/source/home_run)s and 725 RBI in 1646 games.

Walker also played in [Mexico](/source/Mexico), the [Dominican Republic](/source/Dominican_Republic), [Venezuela](/source/Venezuela) and [Puerto Rico](/source/Puerto_Rico), and had a stint as a [manager](/source/manager_(baseball)) with the [Cook County Cheetahs](/source/Cook_County_Cheetahs) of the [Frontier League](/source/Frontier_League) in 1999.{{citation needed|date=October 2022}}

It lasted for 33 innings spread over two months, with eight hours and 25 minutes of playing time. 32 innings were played on April 18–19, 1981, at [McCoy Stadium](/source/McCoy_Stadium) in [Pawtucket, Rhode Island](/source/Pawtucket%2C_Rhode_Island), and the visiting [Rochester Red Wings](/source/Rochester_Red_Wings) were tied with the Red Sox, 2–2.
