The earlier [census town](/source/Census_town) was combined with other urban units to form [Dhanbad Municipal Corporation](/source/Dhanbad_Municipal_Corporation) in 2006.[1][2]

Chhatatnr is part of Ward No. 11 of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation.[3]

### Overview

The region shown in the map is a part of the undulating [uplands](/source/Highland) bustling with coalmines in the lowest rung of the [Chota Nagpur Plateau](/source/Chota_Nagpur_Plateau). The entire area shown in the map is under [Dhanbad Municipal Corporation](/source/Dhanbad_Municipal_Corporation), except [Belgaria](/source/Belgaria) which is under [Baliapur (community development block)](/source/Baliapur_(community_development_block)). The places in the DMC area are marked as [neighbourhoods](/source/Neighbourhoods). The DMC area shown in the map is around the core area of [Dhanbad](/source/Dhanbad) city. Another major area of DMC is shown in the map of the southern portion of the district. A small stretch of DMC, extending up to [Katras](/source/Katras) is shown in the map of the western portion. The region is fully urbanised. [Jharia (community development block)](/source/Jharia_(community_development_block)) has been merged into DMC. Three operational areas of [BCCL](/source/Bharat_Coking_Coal) operate fully within the region – [Sijua Area](/source/Sijua_Area), [Kusunda Area](/source/Kusunda_Area) and [Bastacola Area](/source/Bastacola_Area).[4][5][6][7][8][9]

As of 2001[\[update\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chhatatanr&action=edit) India [census](/source/Census),[10] Chhatatanr had a population of 32,235. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Chhatatanr has an average literacy rate of 60%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 69% and female literacy of 50%. 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
