Chew also won the bronze medal at the World Championships in [2001](/source/2001_IBF_World_Championships_%E2%80%93_Men's_doubles). He reached a career high as world number 1 in the men's doubles on 11 April 2002.

== Career ==
Chew won the World Grand Prix tournament in 2002 [Japan Open](/source/Japan_Open_(badminton)). He competed in [badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics](/source/badminton_at_the_2004_Summer_Olympics) in men's doubles with a partner [Chan Chong Ming](/source/Chan_Chong_Ming). They defeated [Theodoros Velkos](/source/Theodoros_Velkos) and [George Patis](/source/George_Patis) of Greece in the first round, then were defeated in the round of 16 by [Zheng Bo](/source/Zheng_Bo) and [Sang Yang](/source/Sang_Yang) of China.
