**Chelsea** is an [unincorporated community](/source/Unincorporated_area) in [Saluda Township](/source/Saluda_Township,_Jefferson_County,_Indiana), [Jefferson County](/source/Jefferson_County,_Indiana), [Indiana](/source/Indiana).

## History

A post office was established at Chelsea in 1883, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903.[3] The community was likely named directly or indirectly after [Chelsea, London](/source/Chelsea,_London).[4]

Chelsea was hit by a tornado on March 2, 2012, in which three people died. A fourth fatality occurred about one mile away in [Paynesville](/source/Paynesville,_Indiana).[5]

## Geography

Chelsea is located on [Indiana 62](/source/Indiana_62), between [New Washington](/source/New_Washington,_Indiana) and [Hanover](/source/Hanover,_Indiana).[5]
