The only known potential [fossil](/source/fossil) of this genus is ''[Chelmon fossilis](/source/Chelmon_fossilis)'' <small>[de Beaufort](/source/Lieven_Ferdinand_de_Beaufort), 1926</small> from the [Miocene](/source/Miocene) of [Sulawesi](/source/Sulawesi), Indonesia.
