'''''Cheating at Solitaire''''' is the first solo [album](/source/album) from [Social Distortion](/source/Social_Distortion) frontman [Mike Ness](/source/Mike_Ness). Released in 1999, it is a roots-oriented approach to [rock and roll](/source/rock_and_roll). It features cameos by [Bruce Springsteen](/source/Bruce_Springsteen), [Brian Setzer](/source/Brian_Setzer), and members of [Royal Crown Revue](/source/Royal_Crown_Revue). [Johnny Cash](/source/Johnny_Cash) was invited to perform on the song "Ballad of a Lonely Man", but was too ill to record at the time.

"Dope Fiend Blues" and "I'm In Love w/My Car" were originally written/recorded in 1994 as a demo of [Social Distortion](/source/Social_Distortion)'s fifth album ''[White Light, White Heat, White Trash](/source/White_Light%2C_White_Heat%2C_White_Trash)''.<ref>[http://course1.winona.edu/mhauge/personal/sxdx/sets_art/demos/#losttracks2 Social Distortion & Mike Ness Trade List] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170110065515/http://course1.winona.edu/mhauge/personal/sxdx/sets_art/demos/#losttracks2#losttracks2 |date=2017-01-10 }}. Retrieved on July 29, 2006.</ref> Ness also originally wrote some of the songs on this album around 1997 while Social Distortion was planning their sixth album.
