**Charnwood Lodge** is a 134.2-hectare (332-acre) biological and geological [Site of Special Scientific Interest](/source/Site_of_Special_Scientific_Interest) in [Charnwood Forest](/source/Charnwood_Forest), east of [Coalville](/source/Coalville) in [Leicestershire](/source/Leicestershire).[1][2] It is a [national nature reserve](/source/National_nature_reserves_in_England),[3][4] and contains two [Geological Conservation Review](/source/Geological_Conservation_Review) sites.[5][6] It is managed by the [Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust](/source/Leicestershire_and_Rutland_Wildlife_Trust).[7]

This is the largest area of moorland in the [East Midlands](/source/East_Midlands), and it is mainly covered by [bracken](/source/Pteridium_aquilinum) on dry hills, while wet heath is dominated by [purple moor-grass](/source/Purple_moor-grass). The site is geologically important for the 'bomb' rocks, volcanic blocks dating the [Ediacaran](/source/Ediacaran) period around 600 million years ago.[7][8]

Part of the site is open to the public, with access from Warren Hills Road.[7]
