'''Charlie Hazelton''' (1917–1985) was an Australian [rugby league](/source/rugby_league) footballer who played in the 1930s and 1940s. A [state](/source/New_South_Wales_rugby_league_team) and [national](/source/Australia_national_rugby_league_team) representative winger from [Port Kembla, New South Wales](/source/Port_Kembla%2C_New_South_Wales), Hazelton came to Sydney in 1939 to join the [St. George](/source/St._George_Dragons) club in the [New South Wales Rugby League premiership](/source/New_South_Wales_Rugby_League_premiership) competition.

A country player from [Port Kembla](/source/Port_Kembla%2C_New_South_Wales), Hazelton came to attention representing [Country](/source/Country_New_South_Wales_rugby_league_team) in their 1937 win over [City](/source/City_New_South_Wales_rugby_league_team).<ref>[http://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/matches/Custom/OTEtLS0tLS0tLTU4MjUtLS0tLS0tLS0tLS0= City v Country 37 at RL Project]</ref> He was selected on the wing in two matches of the 1937 interstate series for [New South Wales](/source/New_South_Wales_rugby_league_team) against [Queensland](/source/Queensland_rugby_league_team) and scored two tries on debut. He was then selected for the [1937-38 Kangaroo tour](/source/1937-38_Kangaroo_tour) of New Zealand, Great Britain and France and played in a Test match against [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand_national_rugby_league_team). He figured in fifteen other tour matches of that tour.

==Club career & war service==
Hazelton was signed to St George and came to Sydney in 1939. He scored seventeen tries in his top grade debut season of 1939 before [WWII](/source/WWII) interrupted his career.<ref>Alan Whiticker/Glen Hudson: Encyclopedia of Rugby League Players. 1995 ({{ISBN|1875169571}})</ref> He signed up early in the conflict enlisting in June 1940 as a Lance-Bombardier in the 2/5 Field Regiment of the [Royal Australian Artillery](/source/Royal_Australian_Artillery). He was not discharged until the war's end.<ref>[http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/Veteran.aspx?ServiceId=A&VeteranId=142687 Hazelton at WWII Roll]</ref> He returned to play for Port Kembla after the war and made another appearance for [Country NSW](/source/Country_New_South_Wales_rugby_league_team) in 1946.

Hazelton's death in 1985 occurred on the way home from watching a [St George Dragons](/source/St_George_Dragons) v [Illawarra Steelers](/source/Illawarra_Steelers) match.
