# Charlie Guth

**Charles J. Guth** (1856 – July 5, 1883) was a professional [baseball](/source/Baseball) player who played [pitcher](/source/Pitcher) in the Major Leagues in 1880. He played one game for the [Chicago White Stockings](/source/Chicago_White_Stockings_(1870%E2%80%9389)). Guth was a semi-professional player who was called up to pitch due to both [Larry Corcoran](/source/Larry_Corcoran) and [Fred Goldsmith](/source/Fred_Goldsmith_(baseball)) being ill.[1]

## Death

Three years after making his debut, Guth died from [asthenia](/source/Asthenia).[2]
