**Charley Stone** is an [English](/source/English_people) multi-instrumentalist musician based in [London](/source/London), [UK](/source/UK). Active in the [indie](/source/Independent_music) scene since the early 1990s, in 2024 Stone released her debut solo album, "Here Comes The Actual Band", to positive reviews from [Louder Than War](/source/Louder_Than_War),[1] [Loud Women](/source/Loud_Women),[2] [The Idler](/source/The_Idler_(1993)),[3] and others.

## History

Charley Stone first came to notice in short-lived [riot grrrl](/source/Riot_grrrl) band Frantic Spiders, from [Exeter](/source/Exeter), who released [EP](/source/Extended_Play) *You're Dead* in 1993;[4] she also played in Toxic Shock Syndrome. Stone then joined [Britpop](/source/Britpop) band [Salad](/source/Salad_(band))[5] in 1996. In 1997 she replaced [Charlotte Hatherley](/source/Charlotte_Hatherley) on guitar in the band [Nightnurse](/source/Nightnurse)[6] after Hatherley left to join [Ash](/source/Ash_(band)).

In 1998 Stone joined [Gay Dad](/source/Gay_Dad) as guitarist[7] and also first played live with [Fosca](/source/Fosca_(band)), as she would continue to do over the next decade. Stone also joined [Linus](/source/Linus_(band)) as bass player.[8] By 2003 Stone was playing in Spy '51,[9] who although active since the 1990s released their debut album in 2006.[7]

Since the 2000s Stone has both performed solo and played with a number of artists including [the Priscillas](/source/The_Priscillas),[10] the New Royal Family/the Famous Cocks, Deptford Beach Babes, [Charlotte Hatherley](/source/Charlotte_Hatherley),[6] W*llstonekraft, MX Tyrants,[11][12] Misters of Circe,[13] and Salad.[14] She has also worked as a producer for new bands, such as [the Wimmins' Institute](/source/The_Wimmins'_Institute).[15]
