A son of [Charles-Gabriel Potier](/source/Charles-Gabriel_Potier), Charles was an actor at the [Théâtre des Variétés](/source/Th%C3%A9%C3%A2tre_des_Vari%C3%A9t%C3%A9s) (1826), the [Théâtre du Palais-Royal](/source/Th%C3%A9%C3%A2tre_du_Palais-Royal), then at the [Théâtre des Folies-Dramatiques](/source/Th%C3%A9%C3%A2tre_des_Folies-Dramatiques). His plays were presented on the most significant Parisian stages of his time including the [Théâtre des Délassements-Comiques](/source/Th%C3%A9%C3%A2tre_des_D%C3%A9lassements-Comiques), the Théâtre des Folies-Dramatiques, and the [Théâtre Déjazet](/source/Th%C3%A9%C3%A2tre_D%C3%A9jazet).
