# Charles Hulse

**Sir Charles Hulse, 4th Baronet** (12 October 1771 – 25 October 1854) was a British Member of Parliament.[1][2]

He was the eldest surviving son of Sir Edward Hulse, 3rd Baronet of [Breamore House](/source/Breamore_House), Breamore, Hampshire, and was educated at [Eton College](/source/Eton_College) (1782–1789) and [Christ Church, Oxford](/source/Christ_Church,_Oxford) (1790), after which he studied law at [Lincoln's Inn](/source/Lincoln's_Inn).[1][2]

He was commissioned as [Captain](/source/Captain_(British_Army_and_Royal_Marines)) of the [Fordingbridge Yeomanry Cavalry](/source/Fordingbridge_Yeomanry_Cavalry) in 1798, and was re-appointed in 1803 when the [Volunteers](/source/British_Volunteer_Corps) were re-raised after the breakdown of the [Peace of Amiens](/source/Treaty_of_Amiens).[2][3] He was promoted to [Lieutenant-Colonel](/source/Lieutenant_colonel_(United_Kingdom)) in 1812 to command the [South-East Hampshire Local Militia](/source/South-East_Hampshire_Local_Militia).[4]

He succeeded his father to the baronetcy and to Breamore House on 30 September 1816.[1][2]

He was MP for [West Looe](/source/West_Looe_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) 11 March 1816 – 1826 and 6 April 1827 – 1832.[1][2]

He married Maria, the daughter of John Buller of Morval, Cornwall, in 1808; they had five sons and a daughter. He was succeeded by his son Edward, the 5th baronet.[1][2]
