Rear Admiral **Charles Henry Poor** (June 11, 1808 – November 5, 1882) was a [U.S. Navy](/source/United_States_Navy) officer of the mid-19th century.

Born in [Cambridge, Massachusetts](/source/Cambridge%2C_Massachusetts), in 1808, Poor entered the Navy in 1825 and served nearly 30 years at sea. During the [Civil War](/source/American_Civil_War), he commanded the [*Brooklyn*](/source/USS_Brooklyn_(1858)),[1] [*Roanoke*](/source/USS_Roanoke_(1855)), [*St. Louis*](/source/USS_Baron_DeKalb),[1][2] and [*Saranac*](/source/USS_Saranac_(1848)).[3] He was promoted to rear admiral in 1868 and commanded the [North Atlantic Squadron](/source/North_Atlantic_Squadron). Poor retired in 1870 from that post.

Poor married Mattie Lindsay Stark, daughter of Dr. Robert B. Stark.[4] His daughters Elizabeth Lindsey Poor and Annie Cunnigham Poor married rear admiral [Theodore Frelinghuysen Jewell](/source/Theodore_Frelinghuysen_Jewell) (on June 15, 1871) and philanthropist [Charles Carroll Glover](/source/Charles_Carroll_Glover), respectively. Poor died on November 5, 1882, in Washington, D.C. He was interred at [Oak Hill Cemetery](/source/Oak_Hill_Cemetery_(Washington%2C_D.C.)) in Washington, D.C.[4]
