**Charles Roy Abbey** (24 November 1913 – 2 September 1982) was an Australian farmer and politician who served as a [Liberal Party](/source/Liberal_Party_of_Australia_(Western_Australian_Division)) member of the [Legislative Council](/source/Western_Australian_Legislative_Council) of [Western Australia](/source/Western_Australia) from 1958 to 1977.

Abbey was born in [Fremantle](/source/Fremantle) to Clara Gertrude (née Berry) and Charles Thomas Abbey. His parents moved to [Beverley](/source/Beverley%2C_Western_Australia) (a [Wheatbelt](/source/Wheatbelt_(Western_Australia)) farming community) when he was a small child. Abbey worked as a shop assistant after leaving school and then turned to farming, leasing a property near the [Dale River](/source/Dale_River) for five years before purchasing it outright. He was prominent in local agricultural circles and also served on the [Beverley Road Board](/source/Shire_of_Beverley) from 1953 to 1962. Abbey entered parliament at the [1958 Legislative Council election](/source/1958_Western_Australian_Legislative_Council_election), defeating [Norm Baxter](/source/Norm_Baxter) of the [Country Party](/source/National_Party_of_Australia_(WA)) in [Central Province](/source/Central_Province_(Western_Australia)). After a redistribution, he transferred to [West Province](/source/West_Province_(Western_Australia)) at the [1965 state election](/source/1965_Western_Australian_state_election), which he held until his retirement [in 1977](/source/1977_Western_Australian_state_election). Abbey retired to [Mandurah](/source/Mandurah), dying there in September 1982 (aged 68). He had married Winifred Doreen Strange in 1941, with whom he had one daughter.[1]
