**Chandoo Mondeti** is an Indian film director and screenwriter who works in [Telugu cinema](/source/Telugu_cinema). His successful films include *[Karthikeya](/source/Karthikeya_(film))* (2014), *[Premam](/source/Premam_(2016_film))* (2016), *[Karthikeya 2](/source/Karthikeya_2)* (2022) and *[Thandel](/source/Thandel)* (2025).[1] He is the recipient of a [National Film Award](/source/National_Film_Awards) and a [Nandi Award](/source/Nandi_Awards).

## Early life and career

Chandoo Mondeti was born in Vemuluru near [Kovvur](/source/Kovvur) in [Andhra Pradesh](/source/Andhra_Pradesh).

He debuted as a director with *Karthikeya* in 2014. It was a [mystery](/source/Mystery_film) [thriller film](/source/Thriller_film) starring [Nikhil Siddhartha](/source/Nikhil_Siddhartha) and [Swathi Reddy](/source/Swathi_Reddy) in the lead roles. The film revolves showcases the life of a curious medico Karthik who investigates the mystery surrounding a closed [Karthikeya](/source/Kartikeya) temple in the village of Subrahmanyapuram.[2][3] An incident which happened in [Talupulamma Temple](/source/Talupulamma_Lova) in [Kakinada district](/source/Kakinada_district) of [Andhra Pradesh](/source/Andhra_Pradesh) inspired Chandoo Mondeti to pen the story of *Karthikeya*. The film released on 24 October 2014 as a [Diwali](/source/Diwali) release to positive reviews from critics, and collected more than ₹20 [crore](/source/Crore), on a budget of ₹4–6 [crore](/source/Crore).[4][5][6]

He then directed *[Premam](/source/Premam_(2016_film))* (2016), a remake of 2015 Malayalam film of the [same name](/source/Premam). The film was commercially successful. Later he directed *[Savyasachi](/source/Savyasachi_(2018_film))* (2018) starring [Naga Chaitanya](/source/Naga_Chaitanya) and [Madhavan](/source/Madhavan_(actor)) (in his Telugu debut) which did not perform well at the box office.

He later directed the [crime drama](/source/Crime_drama) film *[Bloody Mary](/source/Bloody_Mary_(2022_film))* (2022) stars [Nivetha Pethuraj](/source/Nivetha_Pethuraj), [Brahmaji](/source/Brahmaji), [Ajay](/source/Ajay_(actor)), and [Kireeti Damaraju](/source/Kireeti_Damaraju). Set in [Visakhapatnam](/source/Visakhapatnam), the plot follows three orphaned childhood friends—Mary, Raju, and Basha who find themselves embroiled in a murder case. The film was digitally released in April 2022 on the streaming platform [Aha](/source/Aha_(streaming_service)).

His next project *[Karthikeya 2](/source/Karthikeya_2),* the sequel to *Karthikeya*, was officially launched in March 2020 in [Tirupati](/source/Tirupati) with a [puja](/source/Puja_(Hinduism)) ceremony.[7] Filming took place in India, predominantly in [Gujarat](/source/Gujarat) and [Himachal Pradesh](/source/Himachal_Pradesh), in addition to [Spain](/source/Spain), [Portugal](/source/Portugal), and [Greece](/source/Greece) in [Europe](/source/Europe).[8][9] It starred [Nikhil Siddhartha](/source/Nikhil_Siddhartha), [Anupama Parameswaran](/source/Anupama_Parameswaran), and [Anupam Kher](/source/Anupam_Kher) in prominent roles. *Karthikeya 2* was released in August 2022 and received positive reviews from critics and became the highest-grossing film in Mondeti's career.[10][11]

He has collaborated with Naga Chaitanya for the third time in *[Thandel](/source/Thandel)*, with [Sai Pallavi](/source/Sai_Pallavi) playing the lead actress. It was released in February 2025.
