**Chambers** is an [unincorporated community](/source/Unincorporated_area) in [Apache County](/source/Apache_County,_Arizona), [Arizona](/source/Arizona), United States.[1] Chambers is located at the junction of [Interstate 40](/source/Interstate_40_in_Arizona) and [U.S. Route 191](/source/U.S._Route_191_in_Arizona), 45 miles (72 km) northeast of [Holbrook](/source/Holbrook,_Arizona). Chambers has a [post office](/source/Post_office) with [ZIP code](/source/ZIP_code) 86502.[2]

## History

Chambers was named after Edward Chambers, Vice President of the [Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad](/source/Atchison,_Topeka,_and_Santa_Fe_Railroad) system. Chambers was responsible for opening the town's first post office in 1907.[citation needed]

While not named after him, Charles Chambers was responsible for setting up a small trading post in Chambers, Arizona. The name was changed to **Halloysite** for a period in honor of [clay](/source/Halloysite) that was mined nearby, but changed back to Chambers on June 1, 1930.[3]

The population of Chambers was estimated as 150 in the 1960 census.[4]
