==History==
The settlement of Chagoda was founded in 1926 as Bely Bychok to serve a new glass making factory.<ref name="history">{{cite web|url=http://www.chagoda.ru/history/|script-title=ru:История Чагодощенского района|publisher=Администрация Чагодощенского муниципального района|language=Russian|accessdate=December 7, 2011|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120426034714/http://www.chagoda.ru/history/|archivedate=April 26, 2012|df=mdy-all}}</ref> At the time, it belonged to [Ustyuzhensky Uyezd](/source/Ustyuzhensky_Uyezd) of [Novgorod Governorate](/source/Novgorod_Governorate). In June 1918, five uyezds of Novgorod Governorate, including Ustyuzhensky Uyezd, were split off to form [Cherepovets Governorate](/source/Cherepovets_Governorate), with the administrative center in [Cherepovets](/source/Cherepovets). On August 1, 1927 Cherepovets Governorate was abolished, and its area became [Cherepovets Okrug](/source/Cherepovets_Okrug) of [Leningrad Oblast](/source/Leningrad_Oblast). Simultaneously, uyezds were abolished, and Bely Bychok became part of Verkhne-Chagodoshchensky District (with the center is the ''selo'' of [Belye Kresty](/source/Sazonovo%2C_Chagodoshchensky_District%2C_Vologda_Oblast)). In 1932 the district was renamed into Chagodoshchensky District, and Bely Bychok obtained the status of urban-type settlement. Chagoda owes its existence to the glass-making factory. [A114 highway](/source/A114_highway_(Russia)), connecting [Vologda](/source/Vologda) to [Cherepovets](/source/Cherepovets) and [Saint Petersburg](/source/Saint_Petersburg), bypasses Chagoda, which has a connecting road leading to the highway. There are also local roads, but no other through roads to other districts or to Leningrad or Novgorod Oblasts.

A railway line connecting the stations of [Kabozha](/source/Kabozha%2C_Khvoyninsky_District%2C_Novgorod_Oblast) (in Novgorod Oblast) and [Podborovye](/source/Podborovye) (Leningrad Oblast) runs through Chagoda.

==Culture and recreation==
The only museum in Chagodoshchensky district, Chagodoshchensky District Museum, is located in Chagoda.
