**Cerrote Barrio** is a [barrio](/source/Barrios_of_Puerto_Rico) in the municipality of [Las Marías, Puerto Rico](/source/Las_Mar%C3%ADas,_Puerto_Rico). Its population in 2010 was 496.[1][2][3]

## History

Cerrote was in Spain's [gazetteers](/source/Gazetteer)[4] until Puerto Rico was ceded by [Spain](/source/Spain) in the aftermath of the [Spanish–American War](/source/Spanish%E2%80%93American_War) under the terms of the [Treaty of Paris of 1898](/source/Treaty_of_Paris_of_1898) and became an [unincorporated territory of the United States](/source/Insular_area). In 1899, the [United States Department of War](/source/United_States_Department_of_War) conducted a [census](/source/Census) of Puerto Rico finding that the population of Cerrote barrio was 864.[5]

## Sectors

Barrios (which are, in contemporary times, roughly comparable to [minor civil divisions](/source/Minor_civil_divisions))[6] in turn are further subdivided into smaller local populated place areas/units called **sectores** (*sectors* in English). The types of *sectores* may vary, from normally *sector* to *urbanización* to *reparto* to *barriada* to *residencial*, among others.[7][8][9]

The following sectors are in Cerrote barrio:[10]

*Sector Bryan, Sector Casanova, Sector Guaba, Sector Justiniano, Sector Laguna*, and *Sector Miraflores*.
