In 1970, the Central State Conference underwent a significant expansion with six schools becoming full members. All five football-only members became full members of the conference: three from the shuttered Wolf River Valley Conference (Bowler, Rosholt and Tigerton) and two from the Central Wisconsin Conference (Amherst and Iola-Scandinavia). Tri-County, making their return after the dissolution of the Vacationland Conference, rounded out the expanded group.<ref name="1970 Expansion">{{Cite news |date=12 September 1969 |title=Port to join 10-school conference next year |url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/243542895/?match=1&terms=%22central%20state%20conference%22%20standings |access-date=23 December 2024 |work=Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune |pages=8}}</ref> [Granton](/source/Granton_High_School_(Wisconsin)) and [Gresham](/source/Gresham_Community_High_School_(Wisconsin)) would join the Central State Conference in 1972; Granton was previously in the [Marawood Conference](/source/Marawood_Conference) and Gresham competed as an independent for two years after the collapse of the Wolf River Valley Conference.<ref name="1972 Granton Gresham">{{Cite news |date=22 November 1971 |title=CSC Admits Two New for 1971-72 |url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/251217384/?match=1&terms=%22central%20state%20conference%22%20granton%20gresham |access-date=23 December 2024 |work=Stevens Point Journal |pages=14}}</ref> Granton's stay would be brief, as they would return to the Marawood Conference in 1976.<ref name="1976 Granton">{{Cite news |date=27 June 1975 |title=Papers, Apaches shifted to Lumberjack |url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/243931832/?match=1&terms=%22marawood%20conference%22%20granton%20realignment |access-date=23 December 2024 |work=Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune |pages=6}}</ref> [Shiocton](/source/Shiocton_High_School) moved over from the Central Wisconsin Conference in 1977 to take their place,<ref name="1977 Shiocton">{{Cite news |date=17 February 1976 |title=Shiocton okays sports plan |url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/290695423/?match=1&terms=%22central%20state%20conference%22%20shiocton |access-date=23 December 2024 |work=Appleton Post-Crescent |pages=3}}</ref> and Necedah left to become a charter member of the [Scenic Bluffs Conference](/source/Scenic_Bluffs_Conference) in 1979.
