'''Cefn Manmoel''' is the name given to the broad ridge of high ground between the [Sirhowy Valley](/source/Sirhowy_Valley) and [Ebbw Vale](/source/Ebbw_Vale) in the [Valleys region](/source/South_Wales_Valleys) of South [Wales](/source/Wales). It straddles the boundary between the unitary areas of [Caerphilly](/source/Caerphilly) and [Blaenau Gwent](/source/Blaenau_Gwent).

The NNW-SSE aligned ridge reaches a height of {{convert|504|m|ft|0}} above sea-level at OS grid ref SO 166072. To the south it drops away to a broad saddle southeast of the village of [Manmoel](/source/Manmoel), beyond which lies [Mynydd Pen-y-fan](/source/Mynydd_Pen-y-fan).

Parts of both its eastern and western flanks are afforested with conifer plantations such as at Coed y Rhyd and at Coed y Llanerch.

==Geology==
The entire hill is composed of sandstones and mudstones dating from the [Carboniferous Period](/source/Carboniferous_Period). There are also numerous [coal seam](/source/coal_seam)s within the sequence, most of which have been worked. The upper part of the hill including the summit plateau is formed from the [Pennant Sandstone](/source/Pennant_Measures), a rock assigned to the Carboniferous [Upper Coal Measures](/source/Coal_Measures).<ref>British Geological Survey 1:50,000 scale map series sheet 232 ''Abergavenny''</ref>
The flanks of the hill owe their steepness in part to the action of [glacial ice](/source/glacier) during the succession of [ice ages](/source/Quaternary_glaciation).

There are numerous abandoned quarries on the steep flanks of the ridge.

==Access==
Significant parts of the hill are moorland and have been mapped as [open country](/source/Open_Country) under the [CRoW Act](/source/CRoW_Act) thus giving a right of access to walkers. Similar rights apply to some of the afforested areas. There are a number of [public footpath](/source/public_footpath)s and other [public rights of way](/source/Rights_of_way_in_England_and_Wales) over the hill. The [Sirhowy Valley Ridgeway Walk](/source/Sirhowy_Valley_Ridgeway_Walk) and the [Ebbw Valley Walk](/source/Ebbw_Valley_Walk) follow some of these routes.<ref>Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 scale Explorer map series sheet 166 ''Rhondda & Merthyr Tydfil/Merthyr Tudful''</ref>
