# Cathy Day

**Cathy Day** is an American novelist, short story writer, and English professor. She is the author of the linked story collection, *[The Circus in Winter](/source/The_Circus_in_Winter)* ([Harcourt](/source/Harcourt_(publisher)), 2004), and a memoir, *Comeback Season: How I Learned to Play the Game of Love* ([Free Press](/source/Free_Press_(publisher)), 2008).

## Biography

Cathy Day was born in [Peru, Indiana](/source/Peru,_Indiana).[1] She graduated from [DePauw University](/source/DePauw_University) in 1991[2] and earned her [M.F.A.](/source/Master_of_Fine_Arts) in creative writing from the [University of Alabama](/source/University_of_Alabama) in 1995.[3] Since 1997, Day has been teaching creative writing at the college level. She has taught at [Minnesota State University, Mankato](/source/Minnesota_State_University,_Mankato), [The College of New Jersey](/source/The_College_of_New_Jersey), and the [University of Pittsburgh](/source/University_of_Pittsburgh).[4]

She is currently an [Associate Professor](/source/Associate_professor) at [Ball State University](/source/Ball_State_University), where she also serves as the Assistant Chair of Operations in the English Department.[5]

Day's work has been published in numerous [literary magazines](/source/Literary_magazine), including *PANK*, *Ninth Letter*, *River Styx*, *[The Southern Review](/source/The_Southern_Review)*, *[Gettysburg Review](/source/The_Gettysburg_Review)*, and *[Quarterly West](/source/Quarterly_West)*.
