**Catherine Bohart** ([/ˈboʊhɑːrt/](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/English); born **Catherine Murphy**[1]13 August 1988[2]) is an Irish [stand-up comedian](/source/Stand-up_comedy), writer and actor based in East London.[3][4]

## Early life

Bohart grew up in [Clonsilla](/source/Clonsilla), [Fingal](/source/Fingal), part of the greater Dublin area, the daughter of a [Catholic](/source/Roman_Catholic) [deacon](/source/Deacon#Latin_Catholicism).[5] She studied law at [University College Dublin](/source/University_College_Dublin) for one year before dropping out. She then studied French and History at [Trinity College](/source/Trinity_College_Dublin).[6] Bohart then went on to the [Royal Central School of Speech and Drama](/source/Royal_Central_School_of_Speech_and_Drama) in London, receiving an [MA](/source/Master_of_Arts) in Acting for Screen.[7] Before entering stand-up comedy, Bohart had been involved in debate throughout secondary school and college, even taking on a job in debate education during her early days as a stand up.[8] As a debater representing Trinity College Dublin, she was judged top speaker in Europe at the European Universities Debating Championships in 2011.[9]

## Career

Bohart began working in stand-up in 2014.[7] She was a finalist for the 2016 [BBC New Comedy Award](/source/BBC_New_Comedy_Award)[10] and for the 2018 [*Leicester Mercury* Comedian of the Year](/source/Leicester_Mercury_Comedian_of_the_Year).[11]

Catherine has written for *[The Now Show](/source/The_Now_Show)*, *[The News Quiz](/source/The_News_Quiz)* and *[Frankie Boyle's New World Order](/source/Frankie_Boyle's_New_World_Order)*,[7] and has supported [Ellie Taylor](/source/Ellie_Taylor) and [Nish Kumar](/source/Nish_Kumar) on tour.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

Bohart had her professional breakthrough at the 2018 [Edinburgh Festival](/source/Edinburgh_Festival) with her show, *Immaculate,* which was subsequently released as a special on Amazon Prime UK.[12][13] She then took the show to London and on a national tour. Her second show, *Lemon*, premiered at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival, followed by a UK and Ireland tour.[14] Her subsequent shows have included *This isn't for you* and *Again with Feelings. Again with Feelings* was nominated for Best show at the 2024 [Edinburgh Comedy Awards](/source/Edinburgh_Comedy_Awards) and subsequently released as a special on Bohart's and [Soho Theatre](/source/Soho_Theatre)'s YouTube Channels.[15][16][17] 2026 will see Bohart embark on a UK and Ireland tour of her new show *Borrowing Trouble.*[18]

In 2019, Bohart hosted the "Funny from the Fringe" podcast for [BBC Radio 4 Extra](/source/BBC_Radio_4_Extra).[26] In 2020, during the COVID-19 Pandemic, Bohart and her then-girlfriend , [Sarah Keyworth](/source/Sarah_Keyworth), made a podcast about "what makes relationships work" entitled *You'll Do*.[27] During lockdown in the United Kingdom, Catherine Bohart, along with [Helen Bauer](/source/Helen_Bauer), and Andrew White started an online comedy program in which audience members could purchase tickets through Bohart's personal website to access the [online comedy set](/source/Stand-up_comedy) either through [Zoom](/source/Zoom_(software)) or [YouTube](/source/YouTube) [livestream](/source/Livestreaming). The comedy program is called *Gigless*. *Gigless* won the [Chortle Award](/source/Chortle_Awards) for Legend of Lockdown.[28]

Bohart co-hosted podcast *Trusty Hogs* with fellow comedian [Helen Bauer](/source/Helen_Bauer) from September 2021 to August 2025.[29]

In 2024 and 2025, Bohart was the lead in the comedy show *TL;DR* for BBC Radio 4, taking a look back at recent news events.[30]

In 2026, Bohart launched a podcast focused on the TV show *[Heated Rivalry](/source/Heated_Rivalry)*, called *Tonsil Hockey,* which she co-hosts with [Olga Koch](/source/Olga_Koch).[31]

## Personal life

Bohart is bisexual.[23][32] She previously dated [Sarah Keyworth](/source/Sarah_Keyworth), a fellow stand-up comedian. They met in 2015 and lived together in [Kilburn, London](/source/Kilburn%2C_London),[33][34] eventually breaking up in 2020.[35] She has been in a relationship with actor and comedian [Ellen Robertson](/source/Ellen_Robertson) since 2022.[36] Bohart has spoken openly about living with [obsessive-compulsive disorder](/source/Obsessive-compulsive_disorder).[37]
