It is made up of a double system of coastal mountain chains: The [Catalan Coastal Range](/source/Catalan_Coastal_Range) and the [Catalan Pre-Coastal Range](/source/Catalan_Pre-Coastal_Range), as well as the [Catalan Coastal Depression](/source/Catalan_Coastal_Depression) and other coastal and pre-coastal plains located among those mountain ranges. ==Geology== Geologically the Catalan Mediterranean System is the result of a [tectonic uplift](/source/tectonic_uplift), about 300 km long and roughly 50 km wide. Transversally the system can be divided in three zones: *Northern Zone, between the [Empordà](/source/Empord%C3%A0) comarca and the [Llobregat](/source/Llobregat). This zone is of [paleozoic](/source/paleozoic) and [crystalline](/source/crystalline) composition *Central Zone, between rivers Llobregat and [Ebre](/source/Ebre) *Southern Zone, between the [Baix Ebre](/source/Baix_Ebre) comarca and the [Millars River](/source/Millars_River) in the [Valencian Community](/source/Valencian_Community).
