**Casey Washington** (born March 6, 2001) is an American professional [football](/source/American_football) [wide receiver](/source/Wide_receiver) for the [Atlanta Falcons](/source/Atlanta_Falcons) of the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL). He played [college football](/source/College_football) for the [Illinois Fighting Illini](/source/Illinois_Fighting_Illini_football) and was selected by the Falcons in the sixth round of the [2024 NFL draft](/source/2024_NFL_draft).

## Early life

The son of a former football player for the [Kansas State Wildcats](/source/Kansas_State_Wildcats_football), Washington was born on March 6, 2001, and grew up in [Round Rock, Texas](/source/Round_Rock,_Texas).[1] He attended [Pflugerville High School](/source/Pflugerville_High_School) where he played football as a [wide receiver](/source/Wide_receiver) and totaled 42 [receptions](/source/Reception_(gridiron_football)) for 565 yards and five [touchdowns](/source/Touchdown) as a [senior](/source/Senior_(education)).[2] He was ranked a three-star recruit and committed to play [college football](/source/College_football) for the [Illinois Fighting Illini](/source/Illinois_Fighting_Illini_football).[1]

## College career

Washington appeared in 10 games, five as a starter, as a true [freshman](/source/Freshman) at Illinois in 2019, posting 11 receptions for 132 yards.[3] He then had 10 catches for 106 yards in 2020.[4] He entered the [NCAA transfer portal](/source/NCAA_transfer_portal) and transferred to the [Wake Forest Demon Deacons](/source/Wake_Forest_Demon_Deacons_football) in 2021, but had second thoughts during spring practice and re-entered the transfer portal, returning to Illinois and being granted an eligibility waiver by the [NCAA](/source/National_Collegiate_Athletic_Association).[5] He ended the 2021 season with 21 catches for 294 yards.[6] During the season, he caught the game-winning [two-point conversion](/source/Conversion_(gridiron_football)) in the team's [20–18 nine-overtime win](/source/2021_Illinois_vs._Penn_State_football_game) over the [Penn State Nittany Lions](/source/Penn_State_Nittany_Lions_football), which set a record for most overtimes; Washington's gloves from the game were put on display in the [College Football Hall of Fame](/source/College_Football_Hall_of_Fame).[7]

In 2022, Washington played 13 games, three as a starter, and had 31 catches for 306 yards.[8] He had his best year as a senior in 2023, recording 49 catches for 670 yards and four touchdowns.[9] He ended his collegiate career having appeared in 55 games while totaling 122 receptions for 1,508 yards and four touchdowns.[10] He was invited to the [East–West Shrine Bowl](/source/East%E2%80%93West_Shrine_Bowl).[11]

## Professional career

Washington impressed at his [pro day](/source/Pro_day), posting a 4.46-second [40-yard dash](/source/40-yard_dash).[12] He was selected in the sixth round (187th overall) of the [2024 NFL draft](/source/2024_NFL_draft) by the [Atlanta Falcons](/source/Atlanta_Falcons).[13][11] On October 20, Washington recorded his first NFL reception in the fourth quarter of the Falcons' blowout loss to the [Seattle Seahawks](/source/Seattle_Seahawks), hauling in a 14-yard pass from [Michael Penix Jr](/source/Michael_Penix_Jr.).[14]
