In 1983 he won his first victory on the road, the prologue of the [Olympia's Tour](/source/Olympia's_Tour).<ref name="PEZ" />

In the [1988 Summer Olympics](/source/1988_Summer_Olympics) Wolf rode in the [4000m team pursuit](/source/Cycling_at_the_1988_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men's_team_pursuit). East Germany qualified as fourth fastest and after beating Australia in the playoffs they faced the Soviet Union in the final. Wolf spent two years at top level {{UCI team code|TEL|1991}} from 1991 to 1992. He ended up leaving the team as Wolf wanted to focus more on the [Six Day Series](/source/Six_Day_Series).<ref name="PEZ" />
