His greatest achievements were winning silver medals with the German national team at the [Biathlon World Championships](/source/Biathlon_World_Championships) in 1997 and 1998.

In 2005, he ended his career because he saw no realistic chance of qualifying for the [2006 Winter Olympics in Turin](/source/2006_Winter_Olympics).
