# Carson Johnson

**Carson Johnson** is an American [college basketball](/source/College_basketball) player for the [Denver Pioneers](/source/Denver_Pioneers_men's_basketball) of the [Summit League](/source/Summit_League). He previously played at [Minnesota State–Moorhead](/source/Minnesota_State%E2%80%93Moorhead_Dragons_men's_basketball).

## Early life and high school

Johnson grew up in [Ankeny, Iowa](/source/Ankeny,_Iowa) and attended [Ankeny High School](/source/Ankeny_High_School).[1] He committed to play college basketball at [NCAA Division II](/source/NCAA_Division_II) [Minnesota State–Moorhead](/source/Minnesota_State%E2%80%93Moorhead_Dragons_men's_basketball).[2]

## College career

Johnson began his [college basketball](/source/College_basketball) career at [Minnesota State–Moorhead](/source/Minnesota_State%E2%80%93Moorhead_Dragons_men's_basketball). He averaged 19.8 points and 3.0 assists per game as a freshman and was named the [Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference](/source/Northern_Sun_Intercollegiate_Conference) (NSIC) Newcomer of the Year and first-team All-NSIC.[3] Johnson was also named the MVP of the 2025 [NSIC tournament](/source/Northern_Sun_men's_basketball_tournament) after scoring 78 points over three games.[4] After the end of the season and the departure of MSU–Moorhead head coach [Tim Bergstraser](/source/Tim_Bergstraser), he entered the [NCAA transfer portal](/source/NCAA_transfer_portal).[5]

Johnson transferred to [Denver](/source/Denver_Pioneers_men's_basketball), following Bergstraser.[6] He was named the [Summit League](/source/Summit_League) [Player of the Year](/source/Summit_League_Men's_Basketball_Player_of_the_Year), Newcomer of the Year, and first-team all-conference at the end of the regular season.[7]
