Kent grew up in [Garland](/source/Garland%2C_Texas), Texas, where she graduated from [South Garland High School](/source/South_Garland_High_School). She received both [Bachelor of Arts](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) and [Master of Arts](/source/Master_of_Arts) degrees from [Baylor University](/source/Baylor_University) in [Waco](/source/Waco%2C_Texas), Texas.
