# Carnegie, Georgia

**Carnegie** is an [unincorporated community](/source/Unincorporated_area#United_States) in [Randolph County](/source/Randolph_County,_Georgia), in the [U.S. state](/source/U.S._state) of [Georgia](/source/Georgia_(U.S._state)).[1]

## History

A variant name was "Grubbs".[1] The present name is after [Andrew Carnegie](/source/Andrew_Carnegie), the industrialist and philanthropist.[2] A post office called Grubb opened in 1892, the post office was renamed Carnegie in 1903, and the post office closed in 1967.[3] The [Georgia General Assembly](/source/Georgia_General_Assembly) incorporated the place as the "Town of Carnegie" in 1910.[4] The town's charter was dissolved in 1995.[2]
