**Carl Olaf Bue Jr.** (March 27, 1922 – December 24, 2020) was a [United States district judge](/source/United_States_federal_judge) of the [United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas](/source/United_States_District_Court_for_the_Southern_District_of_Texas).

## Education and career

Born in [Chicago](/source/Chicago), [Illinois](/source/Illinois), Bue received a [Bachelor of Philosophy](/source/Bachelor_of_Philosophy) degree from [Northwestern University](/source/Northwestern_University) in 1951 and a [Bachelor of Laws](/source/Bachelor_of_Laws) from the [University of Texas School of Law](/source/University_of_Texas_School_of_Law) in 1954. He served as a captain in the [United States Army](/source/United_States_Army) Adjutant General's Department, during [World War II](/source/World_War_II), from 1942 to 1946. He was in private practice at [Royston Rayzor](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Royston_Rayzor&action=edit&redlink=1) in [Houston](/source/Houston), [Texas](/source/Texas), from 1954 to 1970.[1]

## Federal judicial service

On August 11, 1970, Bue was nominated by President [Richard Nixon](/source/Richard_Nixon) to a seat on the [United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas](/source/United_States_District_Court_for_the_Southern_District_of_Texas) vacated by Judge [Joe McDonald Ingraham](/source/Joe_McDonald_Ingraham). Bue was confirmed by the [United States Senate](/source/United_States_Senate) on October 13, 1970, and received his commission on October 15, 1970. He assumed [senior status](/source/Senior_status) on September 2, 1987.[1] He died on December 24, 2020, aged 98.[2]
