Based in [Nashville, Tennessee](/source/Nashville%2C_Tennessee), the label is in the [Christian](/source/Christian_music) and [gospel](/source/Gospel_music) [music industries](/source/Music_industry).[1] ## History The music group was founded by [Billy Ray Hearn](/source/Billy_Ray_Hearn) in February 1976 as [Sparrow Records](/source/Sparrow_Records). Sparrow was acquired by EMI in 1992.[2] Formerly known as [EMI](/source/EMI) Christian Music Group, Capitol CMG is a division of [Capitol Music Group](/source/Capitol_Music_Group), which is now a Universal Music Group company.
