**Cape Jervis** is a town in the Australian state of [South Australia](/source/South_Australia) located near the western tip of [Fleurieu Peninsula](/source/Fleurieu_Peninsula) on the southern end of the [Main South Road](/source/South_Road%2C_Adelaide) approximately 88 kilometres (55 mi) south of the state capital of [Adelaide](/source/Adelaide_city_centre).[11]

It is named after the [headland](/source/Cape_Jervis_(headland)) (also known by its [Aboriginal](/source/Aboriginal_Australians) name Parewarangk[12]) at the western tip[13] of Fleurieu Peninsula which was named by [Matthew Flinders](/source/Matthew_Flinders) after [John Jervis, 1st Earl of St Vincent](/source/John_Jervis%2C_1st_Earl_of_St_Vincent) on 23 March 1802.[14]

It overlooks the coastline adjoining the following three bodies of water – [Gulf St Vincent](/source/Gulf_St_Vincent), [Investigator Strait](/source/Investigator_Strait), and [Backstairs Passage](/source/Backstairs_Passage). It also overlooks the following facilities both located at the headland of Cape Jervis – the [Cape Jervis Lighthouse](/source/Cape_Jervis_Lighthouse) and the port used by [Kangaroo Island SeaLink](/source/Kangaroo_Island_SeaLink) which operates the ferry service to [Penneshaw](/source/Penneshaw%2C_South_Australia) on [Kangaroo Island](/source/Kangaroo_Island).[15][16][17]

The [2016 Australian census](/source/2016_Australian_census) which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Cape Jervis had 264 people living within its boundaries.[9]

Cape Jervis is the starting point for the [Heysen Trail](/source/Heysen_Trail), a walking track of 1,200 kilometres (750 mi) in length which finishes at [Parachilna Gorge](/source/Parachilna_Gorge) in the [Flinders Ranges](/source/Flinders_Ranges).[18] Venues of interest to visitors to the town include the [Deep Creek Conservation Park](/source/Deep_Creek_Conservation_Park), the [Talisker Conservation Park](/source/Talisker_Conservation_Park) and two nearby beaches – Morgan's Beach (with the remains of the trawler *[Ellen](/source/Ellen_(1883))*) and Fisheries Beach (with remains of an old whaling station).[15] Cape Jervis is also notable as a point of [embarkment](/source/Embarkment) for [fishing charters](/source/Recreational_boat_fishing).[15]

Cape Jervis is located within the federal [division of Mayo](/source/Division_of_Mayo), the state electoral district of [Mawson](/source/Electoral_district_of_Mawson) and the local government area of the [District Council of Yankalilla](/source/District_Council_of_Yankalilla).[7][2][6]
