The '''Canh line''' ({{langx|vi|chi Canh}}; [chữ Hán](/source/ch%E1%BB%AF_H%C3%A1n): 支庚; ''chi'' can also be translated to as ''branch'') was the fifteenth dynasty of [Hùng king](/source/H%C3%B9ng_king)s of the [Hồng Bàng](/source/H%E1%BB%93ng_B%C3%A0ng) period of [Văn Lang](/source/V%C4%83n_Lang) (now [Viet Nam](/source/Viet_Nam)). Starting 754 BC, the line refers to the rule of Cảnh Chiêu Lang and his successors.<ref>Nguyễn Khắc Thuần 2008, p. 14–15.</ref> It is best known as the period when the [Lạc Việt](/source/L%E1%BA%A1c_Vi%E1%BB%87t) made their appearance in Văn Lang and whose influence was an important one on Vietnamese history.

==History==
Cảnh Chiêu Lang took the [regnal name](/source/regnal_name) of '''Hùng Triệu Vương''' (雄朝王){{refn|group=lower-alpha|Another spelling for the name is "Hùng Triều Vương".}} upon becoming Hùng king.<ref name="bietlam">Biệt Lam Trần Huy Bá. (article title unknown). ''Nguồn Sáng'' magazine ''23'' - 1998.</ref> The series of all Hùng kings following Cảnh Chiêu Lang took that same regnal name of Hùng Triệu Vương to rule over Văn Lang until approximately 661 BC.<ref name="bietlam" />

During this period, at a regional level, Văn Lang was divided into as many as 15 administrative regions called [bộ](/source/b%E1%BB%99)s each still governed by a [Lạc tướng](/source/L%E1%BA%A1c_t%C6%B0%E1%BB%9Bng).<ref name="hungandkingdom" >[http://dangcongsan.vn/cpv/Modules/News_English/News_Detail_E.aspx?CN_ID=215478&CO_ID=30279 The Hung Kings and the Kingdom of Van Lang] {{Webarchive|url=https://archive.today/20140118015343/http://dangcongsan.vn/cpv/Modules/News_English/News_Detail_E.aspx?CN_ID=215478&CO_ID=30279 |date=2014-01-18 }}. Retrieved 2014-01-17.</ref> [Hùng Vương](/source/H%C3%B9ng_King) ({{langx|en|Hùng King}}) became a form of address for a person who was king.<ref name="hungandkingdom" />

The Hùng kings of this line restored a single strong kingship as part of the [Đông Sơn period](/source/%C4%90%C3%B4ng_S%C6%A1n_culture), and initiating another glorious chapter in Vietnamese history, as the Vietnamese people increasingly identified with the Đông Sơn culture.<ref>Sloper, p. 42</ref>

The 7th century BC witnessed the process of migration of [Lạc Việt](/source/L%E1%BA%A1c_Vi%E1%BB%87t) refugees who fled the [Spring and Autumn period](/source/Spring_and_Autumn_period) to Văn Lang.<ref name="Hauptly1985">Hauptly, 1985, 4</ref> The Lạc Việt were a people from [East Asia](/source/East_Asia). The migrant people finally settled in the [Red River Delta](/source/Red_River_Delta).<ref name="Hauptly1985" /> Slowly, the Lạc Việt settlers would grasp power over Văn Lang.<ref>Đào Duy Anh, p. 21</ref>
