''Candyass'' is the most successful Orgy album, and peaked at No. 32 on the US ''[Billboard 200](/source/Billboard_200)''. Many critics attribute the success of the album to its second single, "[Blue Monday](/source/Blue_Monday_(New_Order_song))", a cover of [New Order](/source/New_Order_(band))'s song of the same name. The lead single, "[Stitches](/source/Stitches_(Orgy_song))", was also successful on rock and alternative charts. The album was certified Platinum by the [RIAA](/source/Recording_Industry_Association_of_America) on July 22, 1999, and certified Gold by [Music Canada](/source/Music_Canada).

''[The Baltimore Sun](/source/The_Baltimore_Sun)'' wrote: "Whether through the ominous crunch of 'Social Enemies' or the frenzied thrum of 'Fiend', Orgy knows how to use its artfully distorted sound to stunning effect, evoking a world of anomie and unease with each verse and chorus."<ref>{{cite news |last1=Considine |first1=J.D. |title=Orgy Candyass |work=The Baltimore Sun |date=28 Jan 1999 |department=Live |page=5}}</ref>

In 2021, the staff of ''[Revolver](/source/Revolver_(magazine))'' included the album in their list of the "20 Essential Nu-Metal Albums".<ref name=Revolver>{{Cite magazine |last=Staff |first=Revolver |title=20 Essential Nu-Metal Albums |url=https://www.revolvermag.com/music/20-essential-nu-metal-albums/ |access-date=2025-12-21 |magazine=Revolver |language=en-US}}</ref>
