Newell** is an American politician and attorney serving as a member of the [Louisiana House of Representatives](/source/Louisiana_House_of_Representatives) from the [99th district](/source/Louisiana's_99th_House_of_Representatives_district). She assumed office on January 13, 2020, succeeding [Jimmy Harris](/source/Jimmy_Harris_(politician)).[1]

## Background

Newell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, Master of Science in criminology, and [Juris Doctor](/source/Juris_Doctor) from [Southern University at New Orleans](/source/Southern_University_at_New_Orleans).[2][3] Newell previously served as a legislative aide for [Wesley Bishop](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wesley_Bishop&action=edit&redlink=1) and as an intern for the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus.[4]
