From [Ajax](/source/Ajax,_Ontario), Ontario, she played as a [defender](/source/Defender_(association_football)) and was a member of the [Canadian national team](/source/Canada_women's_national_soccer_team). She is currently a youth team national coach.[2] ## Early life Chapman was born in [Port of Spain](/source/Port_of_Spain), [Trinidad and Tobago](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago). She is a graduate of the [University of Notre Dame](/source/University_of_Notre_Dame) with majors in sociology and computer applications. ## Club career After being named as a discovery player by the [Boston Breakers](/source/Boston_Breakers_(WPS)) of WPS on 16 January 2009,[3] she played with them for the [2009 season](/source/2009_Women's_Professional_Soccer_season). She subsequently agreed to terms with [FC Gold Pride](/source/FC_Gold_Pride) for the [2010 season](/source/2010_Women's_Professional_Soccer_season).[4] Following Gold Pride's folding,[5] she signed for [Western New York Flash](/source/Western_New_York_Flash), where she played the [2011 season](/source/2011_Women's_Professional_Soccer_season) along with fellow Canadian and national team captain [Christine Sinclair](/source/Christine_Sinclair).For the 2013 NWSL season Chapman joined [Washington Spirit](/source/Washington_Spirit) in the new [National Women's Soccer League](/source/National_Women's_Soccer_League). Because she holds US permanent residency, she was not subject to the league's limit on international players. ## International career On 6 August 2008, Chapman scored the first point in the first event at the [2008 Summer Olympics](/source/2008_Summer_Olympics) with her goal against [Argentina](/source/Argentina_women's_national_football_team) in the 27th minute in [Tianjin](/source/Tianjin), China.[6] Chapman received her 100th cap against Mexico on 27 January 2012. The game ended in a 3–1 victory for Canada. She won an Olympic bronze medal at the [2012 Summer Olympics](/source/Football_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_tournament) when Canada defeated France 1–0 on 9 August 2012.[7][8] As of May 2018 she is an assistant coach for the Arlington Soccer Association.[9] ## Coaching career Candace continues to coach throughout Maryland with the private coaching service, [CoachUp](/source/CoachUp).[10] As of May 2018 she is an assistant coach for the Arlington Soccer Association. ## References 1.
