== History ==
The global Camfil Group<ref>[http://www.camfil.us/ Camfil USA Air Filters]</ref> started out as a family business in the town of [Trosa](/source/Trosa), [Sweden](/source/Sweden), located about {{convert|70|km|mi|abbr=on}} south of Stockholm. Camfil was founded in Trosa in 1963 by the Larson family, still one of the company's principal owners, as a joint venture with Cambridge Filtration Corporation in the United States. In 1983, the family bought Cambridge's shares. Camfil was wholly owned by the family until 2000, when [Ratos AB](/source/Ratos_AB), a [Swedish](/source/Swedish_language) private equity company, received 29.7 percent of the shares in connection with the acquisition of Farr in the United States, which was then listed on [NASDAQ](/source/NASDAQ).<ref>[http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_2000_May_2/ai_61848499/ Ratos Closes Successful Tender Offer for Farr Company], Business Wire 2000-05-02</ref> Ratos sold its shares in 2010 to the other owners, families Larson and Markman.<ref>[http://www.unquote.com/nordics/official-record/1896044/ratos-s-camfil-sale-nets-sek-610m Ratos’s Camfil sale nets SEK 610m] {{webarchive|url=https://archive.today/20130205043644/http://www.unquote.com/nordics/official-record/1896044/ratos-s-camfil-sale-nets-sek-610m |date=2013-02-05 }}, unquote.com 2010-11-15</ref>
