The genus is accepted in the [Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group](/source/Pteridophyte_Phylogeny_Group) classification of 2016 (PPG I) but not by some other sources, which sink it into a broadly defined ''[Trichomanes](/source/Trichomanes)''.

==Taxonomy==
The genus ''Callistopteris'' was erected by [Edwin Copeland](/source/Edwin_Copeland) in 1938.<ref name=CFLW/> Its status, like other genera in the family Hymenophyllaceae, remains disputed. The [Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group](/source/Pteridophyte_Phylogeny_Group) classification of 2016 (PPG I) accepts the genus, placing it in the subfamily [Trichomanoideae](/source/Trichomanoideae), and saying that there are five species.<ref name=PPGI/> {{As of|2019|October}}, the ''Checklist of Ferns and Lycophytes of the World'' lists six species,<ref name=CFLW/> whereas ''[Plants of the World Online](/source/Plants_of_the_World_Online)'' sinks the genus into ''[Trichomanes](/source/Trichomanes)''.<ref name=POWO_17375160-1/>
