'''State Route 197''' ('''SR 197''') is a [state highway](/source/state_highway) in the [U.S. state](/source/U.S._state) of [California](/source/California) located north of [Crescent City](/source/Crescent_City%2C_California) in [Del Norte County](/source/Del_Norte_County%2C_California). Running along the north bank of the [Smith River](/source/Smith_River_(California)) as '''North Bank Road''', SR 197 is a [bypass](/source/bypass_(road)) connecting [U.S. Highway](/source/U.S._Highway)s [199](/source/U.S._Route_199_in_California) and [101](/source/U.S._Route_101).

==Route description==
SR 197 begins with an intersection at [U.S. Route 199](/source/U.S._Route_199_in_California) in [Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park](/source/Jedediah_Smith_Redwoods_State_Park). Moving northward, the road quickly exits the park, roughly paralleling the [Smith River](/source/Smith_River_(California)) located to the west side of the road. The road then follows the river northward and then northwestward with several local roads meeting SR 197 along the [evergreen forest](/source/evergreen_forest) area. The road meets its northern terminus at [U.S. Route 101](/source/U.S._Route_101) just south of the Oregon border.<ref>{{bing maps|url=http://www.bing.com/maps/#JmNwPXF6Nm50OTRucXJxdCZsdmw9MTImZGlyPTAmc3R5PWImcnRwPXBvcy40MS44MDY2OTY1NjI5MjQ1OF8tMTI0LjA4MjM0NzQ3Nzk2OTQ1X25lYXIlMjBSZWR3b29kJTIwSHd5JTJDJTIwQ3Jlc2NlbnQlMjBDaXR5JTJDJTIwQ0ElMjA5NTUzMV9fX2FffnBvcy40MS44ODIwNzA4Nzc3MTgzMV8tMTI0LjEzNzQ1MDc3OTk3MTQ1X19fX2FfJm1vZGU9RCZydG9wPTB+MH4wfg==|title=SR 197|accessdate=2011-01-19}}</ref>
