The '''Calestienne''' ([Walloon](/source/Walloon_language): ''Calistinne''), a 130-kilometer-long, narrow strip primarily composed of [limestone](/source/limestone) rock (mainly [Givetian](/source/Givetian)), stretches across both [Belgium](/source/Belgium)'s [Wallonia](/source/Wallonia) region and a small portion of France. Reaching a maximum altitude of nearly 300 meters, this region's distinctive relief is the result of significant [erosion](/source/erosion).

Situated between the lower [Fagne-Famenne](/source/Fagne-Famenne) and the higher [Ardennes](/source/Ardennes), the Calestienne extends from the communes of [Fourmies](/source/Fourmies%2C_Nord) and [Wallers-en-Fagne](/source/Wallers-en-Fagne) in France to [Louveigné](/source/Louveign%C3%A9) in Belgium's [Liège Province](/source/Li%C3%A8ge_Province).
