'''Cabine C''' ({{IPA|pt|kaˈbini ˈse}}, [Portuguese](/source/Portuguese_language) for "Cabin C") was a short-lived [Brazil](/source/Brazil)ian [rock](/source/rock_music) band from [São Paulo](/source/S%C3%A3o_Paulo). With their sonority inspired by acts such as [Siouxsie and the Banshees](/source/Siouxsie_and_the_Banshees), [the Cure](/source/the_Cure), [Cocteau Twins](/source/Cocteau_Twins) and [Talking Heads](/source/Talking_Heads), and vocalist [Ciro Pessoa](/source/Ciro_Pessoa)'s lyrics influenced by [Romantic](/source/Romanticism) and [Symbolist](/source/Symbolism_(movement)) poets such as [Edgar Allan Poe](/source/Edgar_Allan_Poe), [Charles Baudelaire](/source/Charles_Baudelaire) and [Arthur Rimbaud](/source/Arthur_Rimbaud), and by playwright [Antonin Artaud](/source/Antonin_Artaud), they are considered to be one of the first and most famous Brazilian [gothic rock](/source/gothic_rock) bands (even though Pessoa publicly rejected any associations with the [goth subculture](/source/goth_subculture) at the time),<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgm2I9iAQIc|title=4/16 - Cesar Gavin e Ciro Pessoa: "Cabine C - Mistérios, a super banda e o disco"|publisher=[YouTube](/source/YouTube)}}</ref> as well as forerunners of the [cold wave](/source/Cold_wave_(music)) movement in Brazil.

Despite their short lifespan, they have a strong [cult following](/source/cult_following) to the present day.

==History==
Cabine C was formed in 1984 by [Ciro Pessoa](/source/Ciro_Pessoa), who had parted ways with his previous band, [Titãs](/source/Tit%C3%A3s), the year prior. Its initial line-up comprised Pessoa on vocals, his then-wife Wania Forghieri on keyboards, [Edgard Scandurra](/source/Edgard_Scandurra) of [Ira!](/source/Ira!) on guitar, [Charles Gavin](/source/Charles_Gavin) (who had just joined Titãs) on drums and Sandra Coutinho of [Mercenárias](/source/Mercen%C3%A1rias) on bass (Sandra later left the band and was replaced by Ricardo Gaspa, also from Ira!). They recorded some songs with this line-up, and performed some shows in bars and clubhouses of [São Paulo](/source/S%C3%A3o_Paulo), but with the exception of Pessoa and Forghieri, everybody would leave the band afterwards, in order to focus on their respective alternate projects.

In 1986, former [Akira S. e as Garotas que Erraram](/source/Akira_S._e_as_Garotas_que_Erraram) members Anna Ruth dos Santos and Marinella Setti joined Cabine C, and with this line-up they would release in the same year their first (and only) studio album, ''[Fósforos de Oxford](/source/F%C3%B3sforos_de_Oxford)'', through RPM Discos, so called because it was founded by [RPM](/source/RPM_(Brazilian_band)) members [Paulo Ricardo](/source/Paulo_Ricardo_(musician)) and [Luiz Schiavon](/source/Luiz_Schiavon).<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://decadasdesom.blogspot.com/2010/08/cabine-c.html|title=Décadas De Som: Cabine C|website=Decadasdesom.blogspot.com|date=August 31, 2010}}</ref> The album, which counted with guest appearances by [Fernando Deluqui](/source/Fernando_Deluqui) and Akira Tsukimoto (the titular "Akira S." of Akira S. e as Garotas que Erraram), was well-received, but suffered from bad promotion, resulting that most people didn't even know it existed, and so it was a commercial failure. Because of that, a lengthy judicial battle between Cabine C and RPM Discos ensued then, resulting in the end of both Cabine C and RPM Discos in 1987.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://discofurado.blogspot.com/2014/04/cabine-c-fosforos-de-oxford-rpm-discos.html|title=Disco Furado: Cabine C "Fósforos de Oxford" (RPM Discos, 1987)|website=Discofurado.blogspot.com|date=April 30, 2014}}</ref>

Prior to their disbanding, Cabine C was working on a second studio album, which would be called ''Cotonetes Desconexos''; however, the project did not come to fruition.

Their song "Tão Perto" ("So Close") is present in the compilation of Brazilian underground post-punk music ''[The Sexual Life of the Savages](/source/The_Sexual_Life_of_the_Savages)'', released in 2005 by British label [Soul Jazz Records](/source/Soul_Jazz_Records). In 2017, Pessoa wrote a song in tribute to Cabine C entitled "Cabine C/Na Primavera", for the self-titled debut album of his latest project Flying Chair. He died on May 5, 2020, following complications from a cancer and [COVID-19](/source/Coronavirus_disease_2019).<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.radiorock.com.br/2020/05/05/morre-ciro-pessoa-um-dos-fundadores-dos-titas/|title=Morre Ciro Pessoa, um dos fundadores dos Titãs|work=Rádio Rock|date=May 5, 2020|access-date=May 5, 2020|language=Portuguese}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|url=https://g1.globo.com/pop-arte/musica/noticia/2020/05/05/ciro-pessoa-musico-fundador-dos-titas-morre-apos-contrair-covid-19.ghtml|title=Ciro Pessoa, músico fundador dos Titãs, morre após contrair COVID-19|work=[G1](/source/G1_(website))|date=May 5, 2020|access-date=May 6, 2020|language=Portuguese}}</ref>
