This [gene product](/source/gene_product) belongs to the [neurexin](/source/neurexin) family, members of which function in the vertebrate [nervous system](/source/nervous_system) as [cell adhesion](/source/cell_adhesion) molecules and receptors. This protein, like other neurexin proteins, contains [epidermal growth factor](/source/epidermal_growth_factor) repeats and [laminin](/source/laminin) G domains. In addition, it includes an F5/8 type C domain, discoidin/[neuropilin](/source/neuropilin)- and [fibrinogen](/source/fibrinogen)-like domains, and thrombospondin N-terminal-like domains. [Alternative splicing](/source/Alternative_splicing) results in two transcript variants encoding different [isoforms](/source/isoforms).<ref name="entrez" />
