'''Cardiotrophin-like cytokine factor 1''' ('''CLCF1'''), also known as '''Novel Neurotrophin-1''' ('''NNT-1''') or '''B cell-stimulating factor-3''' ('''BSF-3'''), is a [protein](/source/protein) that in humans is encoded by the ''CLCF1'' [gene](/source/gene).<ref name="entrez">{{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: CLCF1 cardiotrophin-like cytokine factor 1| url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=23529}}</ref>

== Function ==

CLCF1 is a [cytokine](/source/cytokine). It induces [tyrosine phosphorylation](/source/tyrosine_phosphorylation) of the [IL-6 receptor](/source/Interleukin-6_receptor) common subunit [glycoprotein 130](/source/glycoprotein_130) (gp130), [leukemia inhibitory factor receptor](/source/leukemia_inhibitory_factor_receptor) beta, and the transcription factor [STAT3](/source/Stat3). It has been implicated in the induction of [IL-1](/source/interleukin-1) (via induction of [corticosterone](/source/corticosterone) and [IL-6](/source/Interleukin_6)) and [serum amyloid A](/source/serum_amyloid_A), and in [B cell](/source/B_cell) [hyperplasia](/source/hyperplasia). CLCF1 is capable of [B cell](/source/B_cell) activation via gp130 receptor stimulation.<ref name="pmid10500198">{{cite journal | vauthors = Senaldi G, Varnum BC, Sarmiento U, Starnes C, Lile J, Scully S, Guo J, Elliott G, McNinch J, Shaklee CL, Freeman D, Manu F, Simonet WS, Boone T, Chang MS | title = Novel neurotrophin-1/B cell-stimulating factor-3: a cytokine of the IL-6 family | journal = Proc. == Structure ==

CLCF1 is a cytokine belonging to the [interleukin-6](/source/interleukin-6) (IL6) family. It is a [secreted protein](/source/secreted_protein), found predominantly in [lymph node](/source/lymph_node)s and [spleen](/source/spleen), and contains 225 amino acids with a molecular mass of 22 [kDa](/source/kDa) in its mature form. IL6 family members share similarity in gene structure and have a [4-helix bundle](/source/4-helix_bundle) in their protein structure. CLCF1 is closely related to other proteins called [cardiotrophin-1](/source/cardiotrophin-1) and [ciliary neurotrophic factor](/source/ciliary_neurotrophic_factor).
