**CAE Phoenix (formerly CAE Oxford Aviation Academy Phoenix, CAE Global Academy Phoenix and Sabena Airline Training Center) (**CAE SATC**)** is an aviation school owned by [CAE](/source/CAE_Inc.)[3] and located in [Mesa](/source/Mesa,_Arizona)[4] at [Falcon Field Airport](/source/Falcon_Field_Airport). ## History

In 1991, the [Belgian government](/source/Belgian_government) contracted the *École d'aviation civile* (aviation civil school) created in 1953 to [Sabena](/source/Sabena). It was first called Belgian Aviation School[6] and then Sabena Air Training Center as a subsidiary of [Sabena Flight Academy](/source/Sabena_Flight_Academy). The same year, it was decided to carry out practical training in flight in [Phoenix](/source/Phoenix,_Arizona) because the weather in [Arizona](/source/Arizona) allows for flights throughout the year in a high and complex [air traffic](/source/Air_traffic) environment.[1] In 2008, the Phoenix location of the school was acquired by [CAE](/source/CAE_Inc.).

## Fleet

CAE Phoenix maintains a fleet of 81 aircraft. All aircraft (except the DA-20) have [Garmin G1000s](/source/Garmin_G1000).[7]

## Curriculum

In 2011, the school trained 400 pilots per year and offers European ([EASA](/source/European_Aviation_Safety_Agency)) and American ([FAA](/source/Federal_Aviation_Administration)) courses. The European students are from the [CAE Oxford Aviation Academy](/source/CAE_Global_Academy) schools of [Oxford](/source/Oxford_Aviation_Academy), [Brussels](/source/Sabena_Flight_Academy), and Madrid. The European ([EASA](/source/European_Aviation_Safety_Agency)) courses train [British Airways](/source/British_Airways), [Air Algérie](/source/Air_Alg%C3%A9rie), [Emirates](/source/Emirates_(airline)), [EasyJet](/source/EasyJet) and self-sponsored cadets. The students of the FAA program are from airline customers like [Shenzhen Airlines](/source/Shenzhen_Airlines), [Air China Airlines](/source/Air_China),[8] [IndiGo](/source/IndiGo) and other private customers. The courses approved by the [Federal Aviation Administration](/source/Federal_Aviation_Administration) enable students to obtain the US [licenses](/source/Pilot_licenses) of [Private pilot](/source/Private_pilot_licence), [Commercial pilot](/source/Commercial_pilot_licence), [instrument rating](/source/Instrument_rating) and [flight instructor](/source/Flight_instructor). Also do they allow FAA cadets to get their 14 CFR High-Altitude and High-performance endorsements. The Multi Crew Pilots License (MPL) Program is currently used by [Japan Airlines](/source/Japan_Airlines).[9]

In February 2017, CAE was voted the best Aviation Training Center in Europe.[10]
